Dinner Pairing #2- Thanksgiving Edition
This past week I went home to Frisco, TX for Thanksgiving where I enjoyed quality time with my family, good food and most importantly good wine! I love to grocery shop so as I was put in charge of grabbing some ingredients, I also volunteered myself to organize a wine pairing for the meal. My sister and her fiancé are wine fanatics, always traveling to different wineries and even getting engaged at a champagne cellar in Reims France. I called her while at the store and asked if her and Niko had any wines they thought I should serve at Thanksgiving because f it was up to me I would have just grabbed a Pinot Grigio. She let me know of three: Cote de Rhone, Shiraz and Petite Sirah. From there I spoke with the gentleman at my grocery store who manages the wine selection. He let me know the Cote de Rhone was light and would balance well with a heavy Thanksgiving meal, I was sold!
A 2016 Cote de Rhone Reserve from the Famille Perrin of France.
The plates were set and table adorned.
Everyone eagerly waiting for lunch to be served!
We had turkey, stuffing, gravy, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, broccoli salad, deviled eggs and rolls.
My sister, her fiancé and dad all tried the paring along with myself and we all kind of agreed on the same things. The Cote de Rhone was VERY light, a good palate cleaning in-between sides. Very strong red to dark cherry, fruity taste. Low in acid I think making it a good compliment to the heavy meal. Best complimented with the broccoli salad, deviled eggs and green bean casserole on the plate due to the richness and flavor levels of those sides. I think ham instead of turkey would have also done well with it, a darker meat.
My dad and I had a great time comparing notes and making conversation over it. Niko, who is a quarter french and half german, complimented me and said it was a great decision. All four of us finished the bottle!
